After searching for a few weeks for a good way for me to learn Chinese online and checking out many different methods, courses and interactive software applications I decided on Rocket Chinese.

What is the best way to learn Chinese?

First, you might be wondering why you would want to learn Chinese in the first place. There are plenty of reasons why studying Chinese would be appealing.

An important reason is that China has a population of over a billion people and that would mean that you would be able to communicate with all of them. Imagine the world of opportunities that would open up in the field of business, making friends, learning about a new culture, and many more.

There are a variety of ways you can learn Chinese. Some schools offer language courses that teach students how to write and speak in Chinese. There are also online tutorials that will allow you to study within the comforts of your own home.

While those two seem to be very good methods, the best way for most people once they have the basics mastered is to learn Chinese  by immersing themselves in an environment with people who actually speak the language fluently.

No matter how many textbooks you read or classes you attend, you will never be able to capture the essence of learning the Chinese language if you don’t practice speaking it with a native speaker. You can know all the words, but you will never truly grasp their meaning and usage without first-hand experience.

Talking to a native speaker will not only allow you to work on your Chinese but you will also have somebody to correct you if you make mistakes or explain how some words are used in a particular context.

You don’t have to go all the way to China just to learn Chinese; you simply have to find people who really know how the language is spoken – this is the best way to learn Chinese. Courses in school as well as online lectures will aid you in the learning process but until you actually get to speak with somebody who has mastered the language, you will not be able to get a feel of what it is really like to know Chinese, whether it’s Mandarin, Fukien, etc.
